Who can register a pet on Pet Database?
Pet Database is designed for anyone responsible for a pet’s care or keepership to register their details and keep them up to date.
Here’s who can register and how the process works for each type of user.
1. Pet Owners
If you are the current legal keeper of a pet, you can register here:
Newly microchipped pets
Pets previously registered on another database (we’ll help update the records)
Pets whose details need updating (address, phone number, email)
Example: You’ve just adopted a cat from a rescue and want your contact details linked to the microchip.
2. Breeders
Breeders can bulk-register litters of puppies or kittens before they go to their new homes.
Add new owner details at the point of sale, or
Register them in your name first and transfer keepership later
Comply with breeder microchipping laws and avoid fines
Example: You’ve microchipped a litter and want to register all the pups at once.
You'll need to register as a Breeder here (we'll vet the application and get back to you)- https://admin.petdatabase.com/Account/SignUp
3. Rescues & Animal Charities
Rescues can register pets in their temporary care:
Register a pet when it comes into your shelter
Update the record when the pet is adopted
Maintain accurate records for multiple pets at once
Example: A stray dog comes in without any registration details — you register it to your rescue until an owner is found.

4. Vets & Veterinary Practices
Vets can register pets at the point of microchipping:
Ensure the chip number is linked to the correct keeper immediately
Avoid gaps in registration that could leave a pet untraceable
Offer registration as part of microchipping or health check services
Example: You chip a cat during a check-up and register it directly in Pet Database.

5. Microchip Implanters
Authorised implanters (including mobile implanters) can register pets they chip:
Direct entry to Pet Database without relying on the owner to do it later
Avoid unregistered chips that breach legal requirements
Example: You’re a DEFRA-approved implanter working at an event — you chip and register pets on the spot.
