Why do I need to register my pet with Pet Database?

Edited

Registering your pet’s microchip isn’t just a good idea - in many cases, it’s the law.

Pet Database is a DEFRA-compliant database that accepts any microchip from any manufacturer, making it quick and simple to meet your legal obligations.

If your pet ever goes missing, having their microchip registered with up-to-date details is the fastest and most reliable way to get them home. It’s your responsibility as the keeper to ensure their information is accurate at all times. Failure to do so can result in a fine of up to £500.

Dogs

Legislation states that all dogs must be microchipped and registered by the time they are 8 weeks old, with the keeper’s contact details kept up to date.
If your details are wrong or missing, you risk a fine of up to £500.

Cats

In England, legislation states that cats must be microchipped and registered by the time they are 20 weeks old — this includes indoor-only cats.
If your details are incorrect or not registered, you also risk a fine of up to £500.

(Note: At present, the rest of the UK does not have the same laws for cats.)

Why choose Pet Database?

  • Accepts any microchip – no matter where it was implanted or who manufactured it.

  • Simple online management – update your details instantly if you move or change your phone number.

  • Covers all your pets – register multiple animals in one account.

  • Designed for reunification – our system is built to get your pet back to you as quickly as possible.

💡 Tip: Even if your pet was microchipped years ago, you still need to make sure the details are registered on a DEFRA-compliant database and kept current - otherwise, you may not be contactable in an emergency.
