What happens if the current keeper doesn’t respond to the transfer request?
When you add a pet whose microchip is already registered to another account, we start our online Transfer of Keepership process.
As part of this process, we contact the current registered keeper to confirm they agree to the transfer.
Our process if there’s no reply
We make multiple attempts to contact the current keeper
This may include email, phone calls, and written notices.
They have 14 days to respond.
If no response within 14 days
We will contact you (the new keeper) to discuss the next steps.
Depending on the circumstances, we may ask for supporting evidence that you are the legal keeper (e.g., adoption papers, breeder sale agreement, vet records).
Finalising the transfer
Once we have either confirmation from the current keeper or sufficient supporting information from you, we will approve the transfer.
We will then request the £10 one-off admin fee for lifetime Pet Database membership (covering all your pets).
After payment, the pet’s record will be moved into your account.
💡 Tip: If you know the current keeper may be slow to respond, contacting them directly and letting them know we’ll be in touch can speed up the process.
