How to give consent for a keepership transfer

Edited

If you are the current registered keeper of a pet and it is being transferred to a new owner, we will always contact you to confirm the change.
This is to make sure the record is updated securely and in line with UK microchipping laws.

How to give consent

  • You can give consent by sending us an email from the email address linked to your Pet Database account.

  • We cannot accept consent over the phone, it must be in writing from the registered account email.

  • If you know the transfer is going ahead, contacting us early will help us complete it faster.

What to include in your email

Please provide as much information as possible. At a minimum, we need:

  • A clear confirmation that you no longer own the pet.

  • Your name.

If available, also include:

  • The pet’s microchip number.

  • The pet’s name.

  • The new keeper’s full name, email address, and phone number.

If we don’t hear from you

  • Once the new keeper adds the pet to their account, it triggers our online Transfer of Keepership process.

  • We will contact you directly and make multiple attempts to reach you.

  • If we do not receive a response within 14 days, the transfer will go ahead.

Fee payment

The £10 one-off admin fee is always paid by the new keeper.
This fee covers full Pet Database lifetime membership for them and all their pets with no monthly or annual charges.

💡 Tip: If you know you no longer own the pet, letting us know straight away avoids delays for the new keeper.
