Can I use Pet Database outside of the UK?
Yes, you can still use Pet Database if you live outside of the UK.
We’re a UK-based, DEFRA-compliant database that accepts any microchip from any manufacturer or country.
However, if your pet lives abroad permanently, it’s important to understand how registration works in your location.
1. About us
We operate as a UK database. While Pet Database records are traceable internationally, we recommend that you also register your pet’s microchip on a local database in the country where your pet currently resides. This ensures your pet’s details are accessible as quickly as possible if they are lost or found locally.
2. Advised action
If you’re relocating overseas or your pet lives outside the UK:
Keep your Pet Database record active so it can still be searched internationally.
Also register with a local database to meet any local legal requirements and improve the chances of reunification in that country.
3. Which local database should I use?
Ask your vet in your current country for advice on local registration requirements. They’ll know which microchip databases operate in your area and can help ensure your registration is valid and compliant.
Continuing with Pet Database
If you move abroad, you can still:
Log in to your Pet Database account to update your address and contact details.
Keep your account active for lifetime cover with no extra fees to stay registered.
Add UK-based emergency contacts to help if your pet is lost while travelling or living abroad.
💡 Tip: If you travel back to the UK with your pet, your Pet Database registration means you’re already compliant with UK law for microchip registration.
