My pet has passed away, how do I update my account?

Edited

We understand this is a difficult time, but keeping your Pet Database records up to date is important. Marking a pet as deceased ensures you remain compliant with UK microchipping laws and stops you from receiving lost pet alerts for them.

How to update your pet’s record

  1. Log in to your account at petdatabase.com and go to your My Pets list.

  2. Select your pet’s profile.

  3. Scroll down to the Update us on your pet section.

  4. Click the Pet passed away? button.

  5. Follow the on-screen prompts to confirm.

Once confirmed, your pet’s profile will be updated to show that they have passed away. Their record remains in your account for reference but is no longer active for lost pet alerts.

Why it’s important

  • Keeps records accurate - for your own account and for vets, rescues, and wardens.

  • Prevents distressing alerts - stops you from receiving missing pet notifications for them.

  • Maintains compliance - ensures the DEFRA-compliant database reflects your current pet ownership.

💡 Tip: If you have other pets on your account, their records remain unaffected when you mark one as deceased.
